Since late 2017, DEVI has been partnering with MS Education, who have started literacy labs in Sadar Nagar slum area. So far, 25 women and 15 men have learnt to read Urdu. An exciting part of these labs has been that the learners have also been helping each other read.
MS Education chose five teachers to become master trainers, initially trained by Devi staff in Lucknow and then perfected in the field through their work in the literacy labs. These master trainers have worked to spread the message of service to others and improving literacy to staff and students throughout MS Education and beyond, and have themselves trained numerous other educators to become literacy teachers in their community.
In the coming year, MS Education school and college students will be part of the ‘Each One Teach One’ campaign. MS Education also hopes that some of the people who have learnt to read will volunteer to start labs and teach new people. Their vision is a chain reaction of pass-it-on literacy.
